Colossal Collective

BRINE DENISON

by The Colossal Collective

The Colossal Collective is a group of artists, engineers, builders and performers based in Boise, Idaho with a singular mission: to spread a sense of child-like wonder and magic from interactions with our larger-than-life puppets and art installations.

Whales represent wisdom. Whales. Undisputed heavyweights. Mythical monsters. Gentle giants. Boise needs more whales. Once plentiful in our region, large aquatic animals have been forced away from their original habitats thanks to urban sprawl, industrialized agriculture, and uplift caused by the subduction of the oceanic plate over 200 million years ago. Bringing these behemoths to life once again, we allow viewers to see, touch, and interact with nature’s most fascinating marine megafauna. Our project, an adult sperm whale, highlights the disparity between a creature’s skeleton, and its exterior shape – which, in this case, are dramatically different. Don’t get too close – sperm whales are known to attack whaling vessels and eat sailors whole.
