Resident Creative Program

The JUMP Resident Creative Program is a bi-annual, 3-month studio residency focused on artistic experimentation, multidisciplinary education, and cross-pollination.

The JUMP Resident Creative Program invites artists to immerse themselves in a dynamic, three-month studio residency designed for artistic exploration, multidisciplinary learning, and creative collaboration. Twice a year, we open the doors of our spacious 3000 sq. ft. shared warehouse studio space, known as SKIP, to three selected artists or creative teams. Here, they can experiment freely, blending their diverse talents in an open-layout space that encourages cross-pollination of ideas. We are seeking proposals for interactive artworks that involve community participation in their creation, from creatives working in any medium. 

What We Offer:

  • Tools: Access to the JUMP Make Studio's comprehensive suite of tools, with advanced training available on request.

  • Community: An environment ripe for interaction and shared creative experiences with fellow residents.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Creativity: We welcome applications for projects using any variety of creative mediums.

  • Engagement: We are looking for creatives with a vision that is engaging. Projects including interactive elements are a perfect fit.

  • Collaboration: Ideal candidates are those who enjoy sharing ideas, thrive in communal settings, and will benefit from the collaborative nature of the SKIP Studio. 

  • Self-Management: Logistics and space management of SKIP is to be decided by the three resident creatives. Applicants need to be comfortable managing and maintaining the shared space with others.

Residency Requirements:

  • Community Engagement: Plan and host a Creative Talk, Panel, or Workshop, plus a Final Exhibition showcasing your work, both open to the public.

  • Commitment: Spend at least 12 hours per week on campus over the 3-month term, dedicating time and energy to your creative endeavors.

  • Public Presentation: The Final Exhibition will typically coincide with a JUMP Flagship Event, and be held outside the SKIP studio, either in the park or in one of the many versatile spaces within the main JUMP building.

  • Logistics: Creatives will need to uninstall their work and return the SKIP studio to its original condition at the end of the residency. Planning for the transportation and storage of any sculptural works is necessary.

Support Provided:

  • Scholarship: Each artist receives a $3,000 stipend to cover materials and travel.

Submission Guidelines - Deadline October 1st

To apply for the JUMP Resident Creative Program, email your application to programs@jumpboise.org with the subject line formatted as follows:

Subject Line: Resident Creative Proposal - [YOUR NAME]

Your application must include:

1.    Resume/CV

  • Attach as a PDF.

2.    Proposed Project Description (Two pages or less)

  • Attach as a PDF (up to 20MB).

  • Include the following details:

    • Interactivity/Participation: Describe how your project engages the audience.

    • Timeline: Provide a detailed project timeline.

    • Construction Methods: Explain your methods for building or creating the work.

    • Budget Breakdown: Outline all expected costs.

    • Safety Concerns: Identify any potential safety issues.

    • Talk/Panel/Workshop Ideas: Suggest topics or formats.

    • Measures of Success: Define how you will measure the success of your project.

    • Work Samples: Include links to other relevant work.

    • References: Provide three professional references.

3.    Proposal Poster (11x17 inches)

  • Attach as a .jpg or PDF (up to 20MB).

  • This visual representation will be the primary element judges view while reading your project description. It should convey your project's essence visually.

Proposals must be received by October 1st, 2024.

Public display:

Applicant submissions may be publicly displayed physically or online for educational purposes, community engagement, or in retrospective exhibitions. Resident Creatives selected for the winter session will be able to showcase their project at ILLUMiBRATE in March - our annual light and color festival.
