Acting 101 (Fall Session 1)

ACTING 101

SATURDAYS SEPT 5 - OCT 17 | 5:00-7:30 PM

Once a week workshop series for six weeks. NOTE: No class on Sept. 19th. For any adults interesting in acting; some acting experience is helpful, but not necessary. Reservation required.

This class offers a practical, hands-on approach to performance through scene study and improvisation. Instructor Ryan McClusky trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, and his teaching style reflects that classical training, drawing on the theories and systems of select classical actors and directors, including Konstantin Stanislavski, Michel Saint-Denis, and Sanford Meisner, among others. This training integrates the expression of body, voice, and imagination with personalization, improvisation, and script analysis to build actors who are grounded, responsive, and truthful. Actors will work on character development, emotional truth, and spontaneity while gaining tools to bring greater confidence and authenticity to their work. This workshop is for any adults interested in acting. Some acting experience is helpful, but not necessary.

PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN:

• How to approach and break down a scene

• Techniques for creating truthful, connected performances

• Strong listening and responding skills

• Improvisation skills to increase spontaneity and creativity

• Basics of movement language, including Laban Movement Analysis

• Foundational vocal technique

• Tools for building confidence and presence as an actor

REQUIRED MATERIALS:

Notebook and pen, comfortable clothes you can move in, and water.

1. If minimum capacity is not met, the workshop will be cancelled. 

2. CANCELLATION POLICY: If you are no longer able to attend, a full refund (minus service fees) is available for cancellations made up to 2 weeks (14 calendar days) prior to the workshop start date. Cancellations made less than 14 calendar days are nonrefundable. If JUMP cancels the workshop for any reason, attendees will be issued a full refund with fees.
