DESCRIPTIONS:

The Fool

The Fool leads participants through the tarot experience. They have the wits and patience to take a group on the journey. The character is one of wide-eyed optimism and definitely a lot of whimsy. Think Wily Wonka (Gene Wilder) or the Cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland. The secret the Fool knows: “we’re all mad down here Alice.”

The Fool should also be able to improvise in character as they take the groups on the journey.

There will be multiple people cast in this role to facilitate multiple paths through the experience.

The Magician, Chariot, & Devil

The Magician is a character with a lot of bravado and confidence. They are the embodiment of pure Will. The character is also written with some sly humor. This character will encourage participants to create a little “magic.”

This character will return for the Chariot, Devil, and Tower cards.

The Devil & The Tower

The Magician returns to tell the many tales of light bringers in myth and then leads participants through the creation and destruction of the tower.

The High Priestess, Strength and Art:

Where the Magus is very extroverted and showy, the Priestess will hold significantly calmer energy. She is the goddess Diana, but her hunt is to find self-awareness and stillness. This character will lead participants through a meditation.

This character will also return for the Strength and Art cards.

See below for descriptions of those experiences.

Strength

The Priestess returns as the embodiment of the Sumerian goddess Inanna. Inanna is typically depicted with two lions, but will instead be joined by the Eagle and Lion of the Lovers card. She recount the tale of her descent into the underworld.

This character will also return in the Art/Temperance Card.

Art/Temperance

The Priestess/Inanna return to help participants with the “art” of alchemy. This will be an experience where participants add to a communal piece of art.

The Empress & Justice:

This Empress is the embodiment of creative energy. She is an embodiment of the goddess Venus, patron of the arts. This character will be singing a vocal piece for soprano accompanied by solo viola or cello. Auditionees will for this role will need to sing 1 minute of a piece that shows their vocal range.

See below for the description for what the Justice card will entail.

Justice:

This experience is about the embodiment of inner balance. The Empress returns to hold the scales of justice and balance. She will read a poem while a ballerina on pointe who models the marvels of balance and form.

The Emperor & Hanged One:

The Emperor is the embodiment of discipline and structure. They are also overbearing and prone to rigidity. They have a fiery nature and like things done their way. Think military precision and discipline. The Emperor serves as a contrast to the Empress and these two characters will engage with each other.

This character will also return as the Hanged One.

The Hanged One

All of the bluster of the Emperor’s power has been drained as he finds himself stuck in a situation that forces him to see the world from a different perspective.

This actor will need to be able to be upside down for the duration of this scene.

The Hierophant, Hermit, & Death:

The Hierophant is a spiritual leader. They like to speak with authority and to captivate their acolytes. They will eventually lead participants to contemplate their own authority, but not before giving a bit of a fiery “sermon.”

The Hierophant will also return as the Hermit and at the end for the Judgement/Aeon card.

The Hermit

This Hermit is a mercurial character. This person will need to be able to hold the balance of being a little funny and quirky and then shifting to the more serious and contemplative tone.

The Hermit will also embody Death. See below for a description of Death.

Death

This card character will have the vibe of a kindly gardener tending to the souls (in the form of electric candles). They will help people confront the unknown, not with answers, but with an acceptance of mystery.

The Lovers:

Two people will speak a short written dialogue on the nature of duality and how others in our lives can mirror things we need to learn about ourselves. Rather than a romantic pair these two will be more like twins. After that these two will need to lead participants in some mirror gazing. Improvisation skills will be necessary.

These two will likely be dressed as an eagle and lion and will return to assist in the Chariot card, Strength card, the Art card, and the Moon card.

Star Goddesses:

Three goddesses of the stars will sing a three part choral piece as participants are lead through the realm of the stars.

For this audition, please prepare 1 minute of a song that
